Service Directory
A list of common services for emergencies and others
Note of the Month: The Climate and the Course
January usually brings cool mornings with temperatures ranging between 6°C and 22°C. This thermal contrast gives us those magical sunrises where the fog gently embraces our golf course, creating a natural spectacle worth witnessing.
Playing golf in San Miguel de Allende during winter presents unique challenges due to the altitude and thermal oscillation. Here are practical tips to optimize your game at Ventanas de San Miguel.
The Layering Rule
Start the round at 6°C and finish at 22°C. Wear thin thermal clothing that doesn't restrict movement. A vest is ideal for keeping your torso warm and your arms free for your swing.
Adjust Your Distances
Cold, dense air reduces ball flight (2-3 yards for every 10°C drop). Use a longer club than usual and take an 80% smooth swing to ensure solid and precise contact.
Keep the Ball Warm
A cold ball loses elasticity and, therefore, distance. Keep a ball in your pocket between holes to retain body heat. Alternate two balls so you always have one ready.
Attention to "Turf" and Greens
The grass in winter is firmer. Warm up your wrists well for impact. Frost slows putts in the morning, but once dry, Ventanas' greens can be fast and firm.
Dynamic Warm-up
Muscles take longer to warm up in the cold, increasing the risk of injury. Dedicate at least 10 minutes to dynamic stretches (torso rotations, arm circles) before starting.
Hydration and Sun Protection
The dry mountain air and winter sun dehydrate. UV radiation in San Miguel is high. Use sunscreen and drink water constantly, even if you don't feel hot!

💡 Important Fact: The maintenance team works especially early in January to prepare the course before players arrive. A special thank you for their dedication.
Mastering the Green: The Key to Reducing Your Handicap
Statistically, improving your short game on the green is the fastest and most effective way to reduce your handicap, as putting accounts for approximately 40% of strokes in a golf round. A player who masters the green eliminates costly "three-putts" and saves pars, leading to a solid and sustained decrease in their handicap.
Many golfers focus on gaining 10 yards with their driver, but the real magic happens on the green. Below, we show you how reducing putts per hole in an 18-hole round impacts your scorecard:

💡 Important Fact: If you manage to drop from 2.2 to 1.8 putts per hole, you will have reduced 7 strokes from your scorecard without changing a single swing of your woods or irons. It's the cheapest and easiest way to "buy" a better handicap!
The Putting Trilogy: The 3 Most Efficient Drills
1. The Tee Tunnel (Gate Drill)
How to do it: Place two tees on the green, leaving just enough space for your putter head to pass without touching them. Place the ball in the middle.
The Challenge: Take 20 putts from 3 to 5 feet. If you touch a tee, the repetition doesn't count.
Why it works: Builds muscle memory for centered impact, crucial for consistency on the fast greens of Ventanas de San Miguel.
2. The "Ladder Drill" (Distance and Speed Control)
How to do it: Place 4 balls at distances of 10, 20, 30, and 40 feet from the hole.
The Challenge: The goal is for each ball to stop within a 2-foot (60 cm) circle around the hole. If a ball goes outside the radius or comes up short, you restart.
Why it works: Trains your brain to "feel" the necessary weight according to distance, adapting to the winter green speed.
3. "Eye-Lead Putting" (Looking at the Hole)
How to do it: For mid-range putts (10 to 15 feet), perform your normal routine, but at the moment of impact, keep your gaze fixed on the hole, not the ball.
The Challenge: Take 10 putts this way before your round.
Why it works: Eliminates mechanical tension and allows your motor system to focus on the target, improving depth perception and the natural rhythm of the swing.

Optimize Your Performance: Smart Supplementation
A balanced diet is key, but for those looking to optimize their physical performance or compensate for the demands of an active lifestyle, proper supplementation can be a great ally. It does not replace a good diet; it complements it.
1
Essential Vitamins
  • Vitamin D: Strengthens bones and immune system.
  • Vitamin C: Antioxidant, boosts defenses and muscle recovery.
  • B Complex: Energy, nerve function, and reduces fatigue.
  • Vitamin E: Protects cells from oxidative damage and supports muscle health.
2
Fundamental Minerals
  • Magnesium: Prevents cramps, improves recovery and muscle relaxation.
  • Calcium: Essential for bone health and muscle contraction.
  • Zinc: Supports the immune system and cell regeneration.
3
Supplements for Physical Activity
  • Protein: Muscle recovery, development, and maintenance.
  • Creatine: Improves strength, power, and intense performance.
  • Omega 3: Reduces inflammation, protects joints, and supports cardiovascular health.
  • Electrolytes: Maintain hydration and prevent fatigue during exercise.
Final Recommendation: Supplementation must be personalized, adapted to your physical activity, and always supervised by a health or nutrition professional. A well-nourished body performs better and stays healthy.
Consistency in Sport: Habits for Success
Starting a sports activity is the first step; maintaining it is the key to lasting results. Here's how to cultivate consistency:
Define a Clear and Realistic Goal
Set achievable goals. Small accomplishments build motivation and prevent frustration.
Establish Fixed Schedules
Treat your training as an unbreakable appointment. Routine creates habit.
Start Progressively
Don't overexert yourself at the beginning. Gradually increase intensity and duration to avoid injuries.
Train with Company or Professional Support
Sharing the activity increases commitment, and a trainer ensures correct technique.
Vary Your Workouts
Combine strength, cardio, and mobility. Monotony is the enemy of consistency.
Celebrate Your Progress
Recognize every improvement, no matter how small. Constant progress fuels motivation.
Focus: Discipline Before Motivation
Motivation fluctuates; discipline and personal commitment are the builders of results.
Consistency is not perfection; it's continuing even on difficult days. With organization, patience, and commitment, physical activity becomes a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.

Winter Garden Care: Protect Your Oasis in San Miguel
Winter in San Miguel de Allende brings a unique climate, with sunny days and freezing nights that can affect your plants. Here are three essential tips to maintain the beauty and vitality of your garden during January and February, protecting your green investments from low temperatures.
1
Mulching: Your Plants' "Thermal Blanket"
Apply a 5 to 10 cm layer of mulch at the base of your plants. This material acts as an insulator, keeping roots warm during frosty nights and retaining essential moisture under the intense sun. Consider pine bark, dry compost, or gravel for an aesthetic touch.
2
Smart Watering (Early and Deep)
Water your plants between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. Avoid watering in the afternoon to prevent water from freezing at the roots overnight, which could cause "ice burn" damage. Reduce frequency but increase watering depth to promote stronger, more resilient roots.
3
Protection for Sensitive Species and No Pruning
Cover delicate plants such as young bougainvillea or citrus with anti-frost netting on cold nights. It is crucial not to prune dry or frost-damaged branches until late February; these branches act as a natural shield for internal shoots, protecting them from future temperature drops and allowing for their recovery.
